Have you ever told a story? Odds are, you have interesting conversations with people quite often -- and if you can have a conversation, writing a great blog is not much harder. Blogging is your opportunity to give your take on a subject and let your personality shine through. These 5 simple steps will help you set up a process to help you become a better blogger and increase your readership.

1. Write at the same time every day.

Set aside time each day to focus on writing. I find writing in the morning is the best time find creativity and avoid the normal distractions that creep in throughout the day. Block out 1-3 hours in a neat and quiet space. Most importantly, begin writing before you check your email. This will help you focus on your agenda, instead of everyone else's.

2. Brainstorm before writing.

Before you launch your blog, you should identify your areas of expertise, your target audience and what you want to share with them in a way only you can.

From there, get yourself a journal (or a running electronic document) where you can jot down ideas and topics as they come to you. Let your real life experiences inspire you.

3. Outline your topics.

Choose one of the best ideas from your journal and create an outline that brings out your unique take on the subject. Your knowledge and expertise is what will intrigue your audience and keep them coming back for more.

By creating an outline, it will be easier for you to research certain points, plug in industry specific keywords and take your reader on a journey that only you have thought of and experienced.

4. Include the right images

Choosing the right images to complement your content helps break up long sections of text and keeps your readers more engaged by 60%. Pick images that you have the rights to use, don't simply copy and past from Google Images. Check out Pixabay and Unsplash for some free stock photos.

5. Promote your content like a pro.

You don't need have a degree in marketing to be a successful blogger. Use your social media accounts to release and promote your content. By posting the main blog image, the title, a snippet of detail and a link, you will be driving traffic to your website and get people reading. Remember, people are likely to share if you ask them to!

Be sure to use these 5 steps as a guide and create a process that fits your unique lifestyle and approach. Practice consistently and identify what works and replicate it. If you have something to say and value to offer, there is an audience you will find.

Remember to always be yourself and your readers will find you! Do you have blogging tips and tricks to share? Please leave a comment below to start a conversation!
