Super Bowl 50 Sharing Economy and Social Media Highlights
Golden Ashby | February 11, 2016
I have a few personal connections to this year’s exciting Super Bowl. First of all, the Super Bowl was held close to San Francisco and my city was filled with Super Bowl festivities. The sharing economy had a very big weekend in one of the biggest peer-to-peer markets in the world. Everywhere I looked people were flagging down an Uber as they announced many promotions around the big game, in line with their recent push to be all things to all people. They offered everything from shared puppies, to an Uber POOLtrain designed to take groups of people back and forth from key areas. The rideshare giant used this weekend to show why they are leaders in the collaborative economy.
Airbnb was another sharing economy giant who took the weekend by storm, highlighting the benefits of home rental, particularly as their company started when the founders rented out their home around a local conference when hotel rooms were at a premium. While in the San Francisco area for the Super Bowl, Beyoncé stayed in an Airbnb in the Los Altos Hills, and had, self-reportedly "a Super weekend."
Despite not being a fan of either team, I was rooting for the underdog, the Denver Broncos because they beat the New England Patriot’s to get into the Super Bowl. I really wanted the Patriots to lose because of the 2001 AFC divisional playoff game, also known as the "Tuck Rule Game, between the New England Patriots and the Oakland Raiders and I am a big Raiders fan. New England went on to win Super Bowl XXXVI, due to this very controversial play. Last but not least, I am a huge fan of Twitter and the Twitterverse was soaring high during this super bowl.
You can see the NFL highlights of the social media reaction to Super Bowl 50 here. Here are a few of my favorites:
Peyton Manning's surprise shout out to Budweiser really surprised me at the end of the game. Colorado's flagship beer, Coors, must have been thoroughly delighted. As you can see above, some of the biggest celebrities were tweeting about the Super Bowl and getting a lot of engagement. What did you think? Please share you favorite Super Bowl social media posts!
